When the Crystal Cabin Awards are presented in Hamburg on April 8, 2025, the aviation supplier will once again be watching closely: Three of the company’s innovative solutions have made it to the final round, competing for the industry’s most coveted accolade.
The Crystal Cabin Award, the leading recognition for innovation in aircraft cabins, has been honoring groundbreaking developments for almost 20 years. The awards are presented annually at the Aircraft Interiors Expo, the industry’s premier trade show for cabin interiors. This year, an international jury selected the most promising concepts from a highly competitive field. With three finalists in the categories Accessibility, Cabin Technologies, and Sustainable Cabin Diehl Aviation confirms its position as a key innovator in shaping the future of air travel.
Sustainable Cabin: ECO Bin – Recyclable Overhead Stowage Compartment
With the ECO Bin, Diehl Aviation is setting new benchmarks in eco-efficient cabin solutions. As the world’s first fully recyclable overhead stowage compartment, it is designed with a lightweight thermoplastic sandwich material, contributing to weight-efficiency and environmental impact. This innovative design solution simplifies dismantling and recycling. By meeting the highest safety standards, the ECO Bin represents a major step towards a circular economy in aviation.
Cabin Technologies: eDecor – Customizable Cabin Design
eDecor revolutionizes cabin interiors by enabling airlines to dynamically customize their branding and passenger experience. Using energy-efficient electronic paper technology, eDecor allows cabin surfaces to change color and design without continuously consuming power. From flight-specific visual effects to ambience branding, this flexible solution enhances both aesthetics and functionality, bringing a new dimension of adaptability together with mood-lighting to aircraft interiors.
Accessibility: Space³ – Inclusive Air Travel
Space³ redefines aircraft cabin accessibility by providing a full PRM* lavatory concept without compromising aircraft floor space and in compliance with existing regulations. It features an intelligent layout with three integrated lavatories and up to four additional seats. Space³ also integrates innovative elements such as a patent-pending door mechanism and touchless functions. And ergonomic grab handles facilitate movement for wheelchair users with reduced mobility. Finally, Space³ is optimized and lightweight, improving fuel economy and making air travel more inclusive.
*Passenger with reduced or restricted mobility
Diehl Aviation is also involved in another Crystal Cabin Award finalist as a cooperation partner in the category University: Single Aisle Lavatory Door 1. Developed by HAW Hamburg (UAS), this solution improves accessibility for passengers with reduced mobility. Designed to fit seamlessly into existing cabin layouts without reducing revenue space, this innovative lavatory provides enough room for an onboard wheelchair and a support person, ensuring greater comfort and independence.
