As part of the IDEX 2025 defence industry fair in the United Arab Emirates, the Polish Investment and Trade Agency will arrange the Polish National Stand. The purpose of the Stand is to promote and support Polish companies from the high-tech sector in the area of security and dual-use goods. Promotional activities will be conducted under the motto “Poland. Business Forward” and will implement the assumptions of the “Internationalization of SMEs – Brand HUB” programme in cooperation with the Polish Ministry of Development and Technology.
The event will be held from 17 to 21 February 2025 in Abu Dhabi, UAE. IDEX is an international defence industry exhibition. It is held every two years and counts as one of the most important events in the entire defence sector. It is a meeting place for representatives of governments, armed forces and other security-related institutions and manufacturers. Exhibitors present the most advanced innovations and technologies. IDEX is also a platform for discussing issues related to international security. The event is planned to be attended by over 1,350 exhibitors from 65 countries.
Strategic role of the Polish defence industry in shaping the country’s future
The complex geopolitical situation is a crucial factor influencing the growth in demand for modern military technologies, but also the dual-use goods (combining the possibility of directing the offer to civilian and military recipients). This creates a unique opportunity to build a strong and modern Polish defence industry, in which, in addition to large companies owned by the State Treasury, there is a growing number of private companies whose offer is directed exclusively to the security market or whose military portfolio complements the civilian one.
In 2023, the Polish Armaments Group also has a tremendous success: it generated record revenues of over PLN 8 billion. The top quality of Polish military technologies finds its confirmation, among others, in orders for “Piorun” portable anti-aircraft missile systems or “Rak” self-propelled mortars. The potential of Polish exports in this sector is also corroborated by the successful sale of “Krab” gun-howitzers to Ukraine.
In recent years, the Polish defence sector has tightened cooperation in the field of exports with the United States and Ukraine. As regards the relations with the US, Polish entities, i.e. Polska Grupa Zbrojeniowa (including Zakłady Mechaniczne “Bumar-Łabędy”, Huta Stalowa Wola) and WB Electronics (Grupa WB), the largest private company, supply missile and communication systems, drones and components for the production of military equipment. Ukraine has become an important market for the Polish defence industry due to the necessity to repel the Russian invasion. In addition to supplying equipment, Polish companies also carry out service activities, including repairs of equipment used by the Ukrainian army (equipment damaged during the war is restored to the state of combat readiness).
In 2022, the value of Polish exports in this sector amounted to EUR 1,180 million. The major partners of Polish entities abroad along with the corresponding share in value are: Ukraine (approx. 67% of the export value), the USA (17%), Thailand (3%), Brunei and Norway (2%, respectively).
Polish highlight at the Abu Dhabi exhibition
The upcoming IDEX is an excellent opportunity to use the exhibition space offered by the National Stand. The Polish Investment and Trade Agency supports Polish exports of high-tech sectors in the field of security and dual-use goods by making the Stand available for business talks. Polish companies will also have at their disposal a special VIP lounge for B2B meetings. Apart from that PAIH offers support in the field of consulting and advisory services with an industry expert and a representative of the local trade office. Companies that will not be able to be present on site are invited to send promotional videos that will be displayed at the National Stand.
