Northrop Grumman Corporation (NYSE: NOC) has been chosen as the prime contractor to deliver nuclear command, control, and communications (NC3) aircraft for the U.S. Navy’s Take Charge And Move Out (TACAMO) mission. The company will lead an industry team to develop the E-130J aircraft, which will replace the Navy’s current E-6B Mercury fleet in performing the critical TACAMO mission.
The E-130J will modernize the Navy’s strategic deterrent mission, providing reliable, survivable airborne command, control, and communications between the National Command Authority and U.S. nuclear forces. Northrop Grumman’s investment in digital engineering and manufacturing capabilities will enable rapid design, building, testing, and sustaining of the E-130J to meet the Navy’s operational needs.
As a long-standing industry partner, Northrop Grumman has been a key supplier for several U.S. Navy programs, including the E-2D Advanced Hawkeye and MQ-4C Triton, and has supported the E-6B Mercury TACAMO fleet for years. This new effort will leverage the company’s expertise in advanced manufacturing, agile design, digital engineering, and weapon system integration to ensure Day One readiness across the Northrop Grumman-led industry team.
Jane Bishop, Vice President and General Manager of Northrop Grumman’s Global Surveillance Division, stated, “Our performance on Navy programs like the E-2D and E-6B prove we deliver on what we promise, and we will bring this expertise in helping the Navy deliver the E-130J on time and optimized for this strategically important mission.”
Northrop Grumman’s E-130J TACAMO industry team includes partners such as Lockheed Martin Skunk Works®, Raytheon, Crescent Systems, Inc., and Long Wave Inc. These companies bring vast knowledge and expertise in delivering critical command and control and nuclear enterprise capabilities to meet the Navy’s E-130J TACAMO requirements.
