India Boosts Indigenous Defence with Procurement of 12 Su-30MKI Aircraft

In a major boost to the Aatmanirbhar Bharat initiative, the Ministry of Defence signed a contract with Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) on December 12 for the procurement of 12 Su-30MKI aircraft along with associated equipment. The deal is valued at approximately Rs 13,500 crore, inclusive of taxes and duties.

The Su-30MKI aircraft will feature 62.6% indigenous content, achieved through the indigenization of various components to be manufactured by the Indian defence industry. The aircraft will be produced at HAL’s Nasik division.

This procurement is set to enhance the Indian Air Force’s operational capabilities and further strengthen the country’s defence preparedness.
