L3Harris Technologies has been awarded an indefinite delivery, indefinite quantity contract from the U.S. Navy, valued at up to $999 million, to provide resilient communications technology for U.S. and coalition forces. Over the next five years, L3Harris will deliver its Multifunctional Information Distribution System Joint Tactical Radio System Terminals (MIDS JTRS), a critical software-defined Link 16 communications solution for air, ground, and maritime platforms.
L3Harris is one of only two providers of the MIDS JTRS, a technology that enables secure, real-time communications among military forces, providing situational awareness, command and control, and targeting information in multi-domain operations.
“The current threat environment requires the United States and its coalition partners collaborating together, in real time, to stamp out adversarial aggression near ally and partner sovereign borders,” said Christopher E. Kubasik, Chair and CEO of L3Harris. “Our resilient technology ensures all users in these coalitions know where friendly forces are and what they are doing to inform a common operating picture and achieve mission success.”
The Link 16 network, which underpins the MIDS JTRS solution, is a multi-domain, fully interoperable communication system that enhances coordination and information sharing among global coalition forces. L3Harris completed its acquisition of the Link 16 Tactical Data Links product line in January 2023, further strengthening its position in delivering advanced communication systems. In addition to MIDS JTRS, L3Harris offers a comprehensive portfolio of communication devices that provide Link 16 access across air, land, and sea platforms, with plans to extend the capability to space assets.
This contract builds on L3Harris’ 24-year legacy of providing communications interoperability solutions to the U.S. military and 57 allied nations, ensuring mission success through secure, resilient communication technologies.
