The President of India, Droupadi Murmu embarked on the indigenous aircraft carrier INS Vikrant on 7th November 2024, marking her maiden participation in naval operations at sea. The President’s visit underscores the growing capabilities of India’s naval forces and the nation’s emphasis on self-reliance in defence.
Upon her arrival at INS Hansa, a prominent Naval Air Station in Goa, the president was welcomed by Admiral Dinesh K. Tripathi, the Chief of the Naval Staff (CNS). A ceremonial guard of 150 personnel presented honours, followed by the President’s embarkation on the aircraft carrier.
This significant event offered the President a firsthand view of the full spectrum of multi-domain naval operations conducted by the Indian Navy. INS Vikrant, commissioned in 2022, is a symbol of India’s naval strength and self-reliance in defence technology. Its ability to conduct a wide range of naval operations, including air defence, anti-submarine warfare, and power projection, highlights the strategic importance of the carrier in enhancing the country’s maritime security.
