The Indian Navy held a press conference in New Delhi on October 22 to announce the third edition of the Naval Innovation and Indigenisation Organisation (NIIO) Seminar, titled Swavlamban. The event, chaired by Vice Admiral Krishna Swaminathan, Vice Chief of Naval Staff (VCNS), is set to take place on October 28-29 at Bharat Mandapam.
During the conference, VCNS Swaminathan outlined the significance of Swavlamban 2024, which will showcase the armed forces’ innovation and indigenisation efforts alongside contributions from innovation partners and the Indian industry. He emphasized that this year’s seminar aims to be larger and more impactful, focusing on technological advancements that will enhance India’s defence capabilities.
The theme for this year’s event, “Strength and Power through Innovation and Indigenisation,” highlights the Navy’s commitment to fostering innovation as a means to address the operational challenges of modern warfare. VCNS Swaminathan provided an overview of the Navy’s achievements and its vision for achieving self-reliance in defence technologies.
Swavlamban 2024 will feature a variety of activities, including the unveiling of challenges, the release of the Swavlamban 3.0 Document, and domain-specific discussions on niche technologies. The seminar will also focus on funding the innovation ecosystem and recognizing outstanding innovators.
Additionally, the VCNS launched the inaugural Hackathon Challenges for Swavlamban, a national competition designed to tackle real-world operational issues with innovative technological solutions. Participants will have the opportunity to collaborate and present their ideas across various technological domains, with the results announced during the seminar.
