L3Harris Launches Diamondback Autonomous Vehicle at AUSA Meeting

L3Harris Technologies has launched its new autonomous reconnaissance and security vehicle system, Diamondback, at the Association of the United States Army’s annual meeting this week.

“We are expanding our platform and mission system autonomy capabilities, from air and sea, to support robotic vehicles making first contact with threats in land environments,” said Ed Zoiss, President of Space and Airborne Systems at L3Harris. “The Diamondback prototype is easily reconfigurable, highly mobile, and rapidly scalable due to its modular and open systems architecture, as well as its focus on commercial components and mobility.”

The Diamondback’s open development approach enhances production ramp-up, reduces costs, increases maintainability, and accelerates the integration of new technologies to adapt to evolving mission requirements.

L3Harris designed Diamondback to complement existing classes of robotic vehicles while filling roles and cost profiles typically associated with manned vehicles. The company is collaborating with Overland AI, an autonomous ground mobility specialist, to integrate off-road navigation technology into Diamondback’s mission systems.

This innovative vehicle system aims to enhance operational effectiveness and provide advanced capabilities for modern military missions.
