The second edition of the bi-annual Naval Commanders’ Conference took place from September 17 to 20, 2024, at Nausena Bhawan, New Delhi. This crucial gathering focused on contemporary security challenges, aiming to enhance the Indian Navy’s combat capabilities and foster collaboration with other armed services.
Admiral Dinesh K Tripathi, Chief of the Naval Staff, opened the conference with an inaugural address that emphasized its significance as a top-level forum for addressing the Navy’s operational readiness. He discussed the complexities of the current geostrategic environment and the need for the Navy to adapt to emerging technologies and tactics in the maritime domain. The Admiral highlighted the imperative of ensuring combat readiness across all naval platforms and reinforced the importance of maritime security and coastal defense through collaboration with the Coast Guard and other agencies.
On September 19, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh interacted with the Naval Commanders, commending the Navy’s role in maintaining security in the Indian Ocean Region (IOR) and protecting vital shipping routes through the Gulf of Aden. He urged the commanders to maintain high operational preparedness and enhance joint operations with other services.
The conference also featured a technology demonstration organized by the Indian Navy’s Weapons & Electronics Systems Engineering Establishment (WESEE). Innovations showcased included autonomous systems and advanced software-defined radios, underscoring the Navy’s commitment to indigenous solutions.
Chief of Defence Staff General Anil Chauhan, along with the Chiefs of Army and Air Force, engaged with the Naval Commanders to assess the operational environment and discuss readiness levels for defending national interests. Their discussions aimed to promote further integration among the armed forces in response to evolving security challenges.
The event also reviewed various initiatives related to operations, logistics, and human resources, as well as strategies to address contemporary maritime security threats.
This conference marks a significant step toward solidifying the Indian Navy’s position as a first responder and preferred security partner in the IOR, aligning with the national vision of Aatmanirbharta (self-reliance).
