French Navy’s Camcopter s-100 Protects Olympic Games 2024 Waters

During the 2024 Olympic Games held in France, the French Navy’s CAMCOPTER S-100 Unmanned Air System (UAS) Squadron was instrumental in securing the waters around Marseille for the event.

The CAMCOPTER S-100s, deployed aboard the French Navy’s Flottille 36F in Var, patrolled an area of 22,500 nautical square miles surrounding Marseille. Operating from Saint-Mandrier (Var), these unmanned systems provided real-time surveillance of the maritime zones where various Olympic events, including sailing, kitesurfing, and windsurfing, took place.

Equipped with advanced EO/IR cameras and an Automatic Identification System (AIS), the S-100s effectively monitored and detected any suspicious activities in the vicinity.

“It is an honour that the French Navy utilised their S-100 Squadron to monitor the surroundings of the Olympic Games. This is another great use case for the CAMCOPTER and demonstrates its versatility and capability,” remarked Lubos Sramek, Director of Schiebel Aéronaval SAS in Toulon.

Schiebel’s CAMCOPTER S-100 Unmanned Air System (UAS) is a highly capable solution for both military and civilian operations. This Vertical Takeoff and Landing (VTOL) UAS can be launched and recovered without the need for a prepared area. It operates effectively in both day and night conditions, under challenging weather, with a beyond line-of-sight range of up to 200 km / 108 nm over land and sea.
